Communication: Journal Prompt 18 – Keepsake

Journal Prompt 18

At home find a keepsake box or rummage through a ‘junk’ drawer and find something that has a sentimental meaning to you, write about it. What or who does it represent? Alternatively find some old photographs and tell me about one of them.

Lately I have been thinking about the photograph I took of my grandfather and grandmother on the day that we were able to bring my grandfather home from the hospital for a day out.  He had been in there a while but was allowed to leave for a day and we went to my grandmother’s house.  They sat and had a cup of coffee and discussion.  It was rare that I saw the two of them together because this was my mother’s mother and my father’s father.

He was happy to get a day out and she was happy to have a visitor.  It was a good afternoon trip from the V.A. hospital, my least favorite place.  He was there for a long time and I used to visit him during my lunch hour because the V.A. hospital was not far from my job.  We had lunch daily for a while.

My mother called me about a half hour after I arrived at work to tell me the bad news.

It was the first time I’d heard the term “expired” in relation to a patient’s death.

That photo has been on my mind  so that’s the first moment that I thought of, but I don’t know where it is exactly at this moment.

Let’s hear about your sentimental item.

  1. That’s a nice remembrance. One of mine is a computer that I’ve had since I was 11 years old. It’s important to me because it still works and it has helped my daughter tremendously with her schooling. I’m happy that I was able to show my daughter how to utilize it and help her with her school work.
